There are many contributing factors that cause a heater or furnace not to function correctly. Some problems are easily repaired and others might be a little harder to manage. In any event if you ever smell gas it is imperative you call the gas company immediately and have the gas shut off as soon as possible.
In order for your heater to function correctly there are a few things that must be in working order. The power switch must be in an “on” position and if there is a reset button it should be depressed allowing the unit to completely reset itself. Make sure the pilot light is lit, and the gas valves are in an open position. Lastly fuses should be checked and replaced if necessary in the circuit box as well as the entrance panels on the unit.
General maintenance should be done regularly on your heater, and the filters should be changed frequently to allow for good air flow and circulation throughout the unit. The blower assembly should also be cleaned and the registers should be checked.
